I’ve been at a conference this week. During a workshop, I mentioned OtherWise Christian 2: Stories from the Frontlines. Later that day, I was making OtherWise Christian: A Guidebook for Liberation available for sale (or discussion). Someone asked about buying the sequel!
First of all, I need to pay the credit card bill for the first book before I can launch the sequel. I want to be able to offer some compensation to authors. So please tell your friends and family! Talk with your local libraries and bookstores! Let’s get the first book to break even so I can create a financial plan for the follow-up!
That said, it was exciting to hear the interest! I am eager, too! The hardest thing about this phase is that even though people are buying the book, it’s too early to expect that very many people have read the book!
I am keenly aware that I (and the many authors that I cite in the book) am not the only one who has been considering these texts over the last 25 years. One of the points of compiling existing scholarship in this way is to create a common starting point for further conversations and insights. Even in the workshop yesterday, I heard fresh insights that I am eager to share!
While it is tempting to blog those insights as I hear them, that just doesn’t feel right. What I really want to do is invite and encourage and provide a platform for others to share their insights with the world. I believe that the world needs more OtherWisdom, but not just from me.
That’s what the sequel is all about. In fact, it’s easy for me to imagine several sequels, because I know just how much brilliance is out there. But I am trying not to get too far ahead of myself!
I have a nascent “OtherWise Christian 2 writers group” on Facebook, which is intended to encourage such reflection as well as creative collaborations. Please be in touch if you would like to be connected there.
I don’t have a timeline (yet) for OtherWise Christian 2, but I would love to be connecting with folk who are interested sooner rather than later. I rather suspect that at some point it may feel “ready” and I’ll shift into very active editing to launch that project.
