It’s a Bible Bash weekend again! My friends, Peterson and Liam, are at it again, bringing new life to an ancient text. This time, they are talking about Yael (also a little bit about Deborah and others) and Judges 4-5. This is a story that I touch on in chapter 20 of OtherWise Christian: A Guidebook for Transgender Liberation, but this Bible Bash adds additional insight and texture to the story.
While I touch on Yael in my book, my focus was primarily on Deborah as an OtherWise-gendered figure. Liam digs into the Hebrew and adds depth to the conversation about Yael. Together Peterson and Liam talk about tent pegs, mountain goats, phallic symbols, and the way gender plays out in this story.
If you’re following this blog, you know by now that I am a fan of the Bible Bash (and not just because I’m a special guest on their next episode)! Watch for another post about their exciting work.
